Thomas Youngblood, founder and guitar player of Kamelot, took some time off his busy schedule to answer us some questions! Read here about the next album, the upcoming DVD/Blu-Ray, a book deal, the South America tour in March and more!
Kamelot Germany: Hi Thomas! Happy New Year! We hope you had a great start into 2020!
Thomas Youngblood: Happy New Year!!
KG: Let’s take a look back and talk about 2019. Kamelot did some extensive touring during the last year! What where your highlights?
TY: Wow, what year 2019 was! Massive touring and meeting many new and old Kamelot Nation members. I think my highlights were playing Times Square in New York, playing Jannus Live in the Tampa area and what I really take away from the year is the camaraderie the band is having and all of us are super excited about the next step.
KG: In May the band will return to South America. What can the fans expect?
TY: We are finally bringing The Shadow Tour to select cities in South America, we worked for a year to find the right time and now its happening. The amazing Lauren Hart will join us and it will be her first time in South America, so we hope the fans show her that all the cities are an amazing place to visit and tour. I am sure they will be mega loud!
KG: Any festivals planned for the summer?
TY: We are focusing on the followup to The Shadow Theory, so we will probably not do any Summer Festivals, but you never know!
KG: How’s the work on the DVD/Blu-Ray going so far?
TY: Going great!! To be honest, we haven’t felt any need to rush this release. I know some fans are ready but in our mind it will be a great release to fill 2020, 6-7 months before the next studio album. Of course there are always legal issues that sometime delay things, I am happy to say that any previous songwriters are 100% on board and now we are working on the final touches. Packaging, mixing, special editions…it will be a killer addition to any KamFans collection.
KG: Can you tell us the targeted release date?
TY: Hoping for a Summer release, Napalm now has all the parts and we will work together to market and let all the fans know when its up for sale. There will be a very limited edition that will go on presale soon.
KG: The official videos for The Shadow Theory have been amazing. Do you plan to release more official videos in the near future?
TY: Of course, and I hope to bring more live clips from the next tour. We are planning to bring a videographer with us on the entire world tour.
KG: Have you already started on working on material for the new album?
TY: We have! I am starting to work with Oliver and Tommy now, we are experimenting with doing some live sessions over the net and we will also do some writing sessions in Florida, Germany and Canada. The rough ideas are really killer and inspirational. Along with the songwriting we are planning the live experience and already holding venues for 2021 and 2022 tours.
KG: Last spring Alex Landenburg was welcomed to the band as a full time member. We think it was a great idea! How’s it going? What is he bringing into the band – as a musician and on a personal level?
TY: This guy is so great and so many levels. First, amazing drummer and he is the most dedicated person I know to his craft. Second, his positive energy is infectious. It is rare to see Alex in a bad mood and he reminds us to enjoy the journey. Which I am!!
KG: Is there anything else we forgot to cover? Fill us in!
TY: Well, I am happy to say we have been offered a book deal for KAMELOT, from the beginning to today to the future. It is something we have discussed for years but I think it’s time to finally make it happen. Get ready for some good and sad stories and some photos from back in the day. All in all, it will be very fun to see our journey, the band and the fans!
KG: Thank you for the interview! We hope to see you again soon!!
